LD 868
Weaponizing the Government Against Conservatives through the Enhancement of Leftist Lawfare Tactics.
2023 - Maine Senate
Vote Description

This bill makes it a violation of Maine’s civil rights law to engage in conduct that causes a protected person to experience emotional distress or fear of death. It then allows the attorney general to bring a civil action against a person for this violation. CPAC recognizes that this new standard is completely ambiguous and subjective, further recognizes that this new law will be used to persecute conservatives who do not totally affirm the lifestyles of Leftists, and opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on June 12, 2023 by a vote of 23-8 and the bill later became law.
