  • Hong Kong Statement

Hong Kong Statement Hong Kong Statement China is attacking freedoms in Hong Kong. The Chinese imposed National Security Law is being used against pro-democracy warriors who are fighting for freedom. We met Benny Tai in 2019 when CPAC traveled to Hong Kong to support the pro-freedom movement. Benny Tai and the others arrested are putting their lives on the line as they stood up for democracy. The government of Hong Kong, controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), wants to silence the will of the people. Because of Benny Tai and the courageous 47, a light is shining on the injustices imposed by the totalitarian government. CPAC will always support those who put their lives on the line for freedom. Under the new Trump administration, bad actors like the CCP will be put on notice that all people, not just Americans, deserve their voices to be heard. As our international movement grows, we will bring these stories out from the shadows and put the world on notice that there is change coming. NEWS & RELEASES . Statement from ACU Board Members Charlie Gerow & Carolyn Meadows Statement from ACU Board Members Charlie Gerow & Carolyn Meadows STATEMENT OF CHARLIE GEROW, FIRST VICE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE UNION AND CAROLYN MEADOWS, SECOND VICE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE UNION: “We are longtime members of the American Conservative Union Board of Directors. We have seen the most recent egregious attack by the Daily Beast on ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp. We have both known Matt and his wife, Mercedes, for decades. We know Matt Schlapp’s heart and his character. And we believe this latest attempt at character assassination is false. Unfortunately, the Left and its note takers in the media routinely choose to scorch the earth in their quest to cancel those with whom they disagree. Whether it’s conservative judicial nominees or good people like Matt Schlapp, they will sink to any depth to destroy them and their families. It’s no coincidence that this latest hit piece dropped on the night before the first ever CPAC gala and a mere six weeks before our annual conference. The Daily Beast blog has a track record of attempting to sabotage CPAC events, using tabloid “reporting” to do so. We stand squarely behind Matt Schlapp, and the ACU Board of Directors has full confidence in his leadership of the organization.” ### NEWS & RELEASES .
