Jack Kalavritinos op-ed for RealClearHealth: Rx Price Controls Won’t Help Americans Jack Kalavritinos op-ed for RealClearHealth: Rx Price Controls Won’t Help Americans Jack Kalavritinos, Executive Director of the Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), has a new column in RealClearHealth where he points out that resurrecting old, failed policies won’t help Democrats prospects in the midterms. Democrats are desperate to show American voters that they are doing something—anything—before November and the expected red wave. But resurrecting old, failed ideas won’t help Americans. The legislative clock is running out because the general consensus is that Democrats will lose big in the midterm elections, and their efforts to overhaul the role of government as we know it will be shelved. There’s no chance that the torrent of government spending on social programs and green energy subsidies will continue once the House and Senate are no longer controlled by the far left of the Democratic Party. - CPAC Releases Mississippi Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a Disappointingly Predictable Lack of Fiscal Responsibility.
CPAC Releases Mississippi Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a Disappointingly Predictable Lack of Fiscal Responsibility. CPAC Releases Mississippi Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a Disappointingly Predictable Lack of Fiscal Responsibility. ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 4, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s latest analysis reveals that Mississippi continued its trend of passing financially irresponsible bills, garnering the legislature low scores consonant with its performance in previous years. The combination of this legislation and a relative lack of conservative bills earned Republicans an average of only 61%. SEE SCORECARD HERE “Mississippi’s legislature earned one of the lowest average ratings among Republican controlled states.” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Despite having a sizeable majority over Democrats, Mississippian Republicans allow themselves to become steeped in cronyism while only addressing some of the major conservative issues of the day.” The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Mississippi address government spending, parental rights in education, and Second Amendment freedoms. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Mississippi legislature. The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area. - Destroying union jobs
Destroying union jobs Destroying union jobs The logjam has finally given way. Progress on the long-stalled Keystone XL pipeline—a project which will bring oil from Canada to the Gulf Coast of Texas—has finally resumed. On August 4, Calgary-based TC Energy signed agreements with four labor unions to start building the Alberta-to-Nebraska section. The project will reportedly create 42,000 U.S. jobs, 10,000 of which are in high-paying construction. According to Keystone XL, the project will inject $3.4 billion into the U.S. GDP and boost Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska’s local economies by $55 million in the first year of operation. On top of the boon for US jobs and GDP, the project will create a “multi-million dollar training program for [the] renewable energy sector” via establishing a unique “Green Jobs Training Program” for its union member workers. This should tick any decent politician’s boxes for a great project. Good for jobs Good for the economy Good for the environment But Joe Biden isn’t just any politician. Though he doesn’t call it the “Green New Deal,” Joe Biden’s policies mimic it. In a Joe Biden administration, there would be no Keystone XL pipeline, nor the jobs that go with it. In May, his campaign policy director promised that Biden would “ stop it for good by rescinding the Keystone XL pipeline permit .” Joe Biden talks a good game when it comes to creating millions of fictional energy jobs. But that’s all it is—talk. In reality, where it counts, his first act will be to please his radical, Left-wing puppeteers by destroying thousands of high-paying, climate-friendly Keystone XL union jobs. NEWS & RELEASES . Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) — who took a leading role in the January 6 Select Committee’s second hearing on Monday focusing on former President Donald Trump’s claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election — once questioned the integrity of voting machines in the 2004 presidential election. - CPAC Releases Ohio Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a Relatively Uninspiring Year-Long Session.
CPAC Releases Ohio Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a Relatively Uninspiring Year-Long Session. CPAC Releases Ohio Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a Relatively Uninspiring Year-Long Session. ALEXANDRIA, VA (March 5, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s analysis reveals that the Ohio state legislature passed few strong conservative bills compared to previous sessions and relative to other red states. Of the two conservative bills scored by CPAC that eventually became law, one was vetoed by Governor Mike DeWine and had to be overridden. SEE SCORECARD HERE “Voters in Ohio have entrusted the Republican’s to control their legislature and their Governor’s mansion. However, conservative legislation often fails to get across the finish line, and even worse, in the case of defending minors from radical gender surgeries, the bill tragically met the veto pen of ‘moderate’ Governor Mike DeWine before being overridden,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. The following members of the Ohio State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time during the 2023 session: Darrell Kick (100%) Riordan McClain (100%) Derek Merrin (100%) Jena Powell (100%) Reggie Stoltzfus (100%) Additionally, some lawmakers in the Ohio State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2023 session. Their names can be found highlighted in silver on the scorecard. The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Ohio address radical gender ideology, Second Amendment freedoms, and election fraud. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Ohio legislature. - Statement on Continuing Resolution
Statement on Continuing Resolution Statement on Continuing Resolution The Socialist Democrats are addicted to big government spending and massive deficits. While they are fighting for wasteful spending on illegals, President Trump is fighting to protect Americans' hard-earned tax dollars and American citizens. Republicans need to embrace the Trump standard of actually fighting and drawing a line in the sand on the Socialist Democrats’ radical policies. As CPAC has consistently said, "shut downs" that only shut down 17% of the federal government, while allowing 83% of government functions to continue, are NOT full shutdowns. It only underscores the bloated nature of our federal spending and the urgent need to get things under control. We cannot let unfounded panic deter us from curbing wasteful spending of tax payer dollars. Going forward, Republican budget and appropriation committee members need to honor the mandate given to President Trump almost a year ago. We will never have a law-based immigration process if our government continues to subsidize illegal and unwanted immigration. NEWS & RELEASES . - Statement on President Donald Trump’s Arraignment
Statement on President Donald Trump’s Arraignment Statement on President Donald Trump’s Arraignment “Today’s events highlight the dangers of a so-called “justice” system that allows unaccountable prosecutors to put politics ahead of public safety. This is eye-opening for many conservatives, regardless of whether they support Donald J. Trump. When every aspect of life is governed by bureaucrats and regulations, and prosecutorial power is unchecked, it is all too easy to become a target. Soros-funded prosecutor Alvin Bragg campaigned in ultra-liberal Manhattan on investigating Trump. Desperate to fulfill his campaign promise, he searched high and low to find anything that could support a charge. Bragg then relied on testimony from a convicted liar to validate it. This is not how a fair justice system should work. Former Attorney General and Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson said the duty of a prosecutor is not to notch wins in court. Rather, the duty of a prosecutor is to seek justice. Alvin Bragg has failed in his duty. The Trump indictment is little more than politics dressed up as prosecution, and it should end. At a minimum, Bragg should recuse himself, given his Soros connections. And any further litigation should be moved to a venue where the President can be judged by an unbiased jury of his peers. If Trump can get a fair trial, we are confident he will be vindicated.” Matt Schlapp Chairman, CPAC David Safavian General Counsel, CPAC ### NEWS & RELEASES . - CPAC Endorses Sarah Huckabee Sanders
CPAC Endorses Sarah Huckabee Sanders CPAC Endorses Sarah Huckabee Sanders Alexandria, VA – The Conservative Political Action Coalition (CPAC) today announced its endorsement of Sarah Huckabee Sanders for Governor of the State of Arkansas. “Sarah Huckabee Sanders is the right person to be the next governor Arkansas,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Serving as President Trump’s press secretary for over two years, Sarah proved herself as a fighter who boldly and tirelessly fights the radical Left’s perversion of the truth at every turn. Our country is desperate for the kind of devotion to America’s founding principles that has become synonymous with Sarah’s reputation. We endorse Sarah because she is determined to govern Arkansas with a conservative philosophy and a commonsense agenda, including protecting Arkansans’ constitutional rights, thwarting the rise of socialism in Washington, and standing up for the people of her state. For more than fifty years, CPAC has served as an umbrella organization harnessing the collective strength of conservative organizations fighting for Americans who are concerned with liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values, strong national defense, and fighting the D.C. establishment.
