CPAC Releases South Dakota Legislative Scorecard, Exposing a Republican Legislature that Struggles to Pass Even the Mildest of Conservative Policies. ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 18, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s latest analysis reveals that South Dakotan Republicans fail to stick together on votes for conservative legislation, resulting in an average score around 73% across both chambers. Overall, Democrat averages remained around their lifetime average of 35%. SEE SCORECARD HERE “South Dakota’s legislators passed up opportunities to protect kids from radical gender ideology in schools, defeated reforms of the growing welfare state, and failed to pass other conservative priorities this past session," said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Among red states, South Dakota’s Republicans appear to be ‘asleep at the wheel.’” CPAC recognizes several South Dakota state legislators recognized by CPAC for their conservative voting records. The following members of the South Dakota State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time during the 2023 session. Senate: Julie Frye-Mueller (100%) Tom Pischke (100%) Brent Hoffman (92%) Jim Stalzer (91%) House: Aaron Aylward (100%) Phil Jensen (100%) Karla Lems (100%) Tina Mulally (100%) Tony Randolph (100%) John Sjaarda (100%) Ben Krohmer (92%) Additionally, several lawmakers in the South Dakota State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2023 session. Their names are highlighted in gray on the scorecard. The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of South Dakota address government spending, parental rights in education, and national security. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the South Dakota legislature. The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area. CPAC Releases Hawaii Legislative Scorecard and Presents Hawaii with the Title of “Least Conservative State” for the Second Year in a Row. ALEXANDRIA, VA (March 4, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s latest analysis ranks Hawaii as the state with the lowest overall conservative rating for the second year in a row. Hawaiian legislators received an overall average score of 7% in the House and 5% in the Senate. SEE SCORECARD HERE “Hawaii’s Supreme Court recent ruled that the undefined 'spirit of Aloha' supersedes the United States constitution. This radical ruling should come as no surprise to those that follow politics, as Hawaii has received the title of least conservative state in our ratings for a second year in a row,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Hawaii address radical gender ideology, the environment, and abortion expansion. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and upholding the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Hawaii legislature. CPAC Releases Nevada Legislative Scorecard, Exposing a ‘Republican’ Governor in Name Only. ALEXANDRIA, VA (February 27, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s latest analysis reveals that, despite its Republican governor, Nevada fell prey to the Left’s extremist agenda. Nevada’s Democrats received an average rating of 2% and made significant strides toward the accomplishment of the Left’s radical public policy goals. SEE SCORECARD HERE “Republican Governor Joe Lombardo rarely stands up for conservative ideals and is willing to side with Democrats on a lot of key issues,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “For example, Gov. Lombardo went against his party and signed legislation making Nevada an abortion ‘sanctuary state,’ a bill requiring insurers and taxpayers to pay for radical gender surgeries, and legislation which would allow men in women’s prisons.” A few lawmakers in the Nevada State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2023 session. They are as follows: Gregory Hafen (86%) Alexis Hansen (86%) Ira Hansen (86%) Robin Titus (85%) Jill Dickman (82%) Ken Gray (82%) Jeff Stone (82%) The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Nevada limit Second Amendment freedoms, promote radical gender ideology, and diminish election security. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and upholding the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Nevada legislature.
