CPAC Releases North Carolina Legislative Scorecard, Revealing Plummeting Scores Amongst Democrats. ALEXANDRIA, VA (August 2, 2023) — CPAC Foundation’s analysis reveals that Republican lawmakers in North Carolina voted conservatively at rates that were consistent with previous sessions. Meanwhile, Democrats earned their lowest scores in over a decade, experiencing a 23-point drop from the previous session. SEE THE SCORECARD HERE Several North Carolina state legislators are recognized by CPAC for their conservative voting records based on a just-released analysis from CPAC Foundation’s Center for Legislative Accountability. The following members of the North Carolina State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time during the 2022 session: Senate: Deanna Ballard (100%) Norman Sanderson (100%) Steve Jarvis (100%) House: John Bell (100%) Hugh Blackwell (100%) George Cleveland (100%) Julia Howard (100%) Tim Moffitt (100%) Ben Moss (100%) John Szoka (100%) Additionally, a large number of lawmakers in the North Carolina State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2022 session. The bills featured in CPAC’s 2022 Ratings of North Carolina address Second Amendment rights, parental rights, burdensome environmental restrictions, and taxes. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the North Carolina legislature. The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA) , an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area. # # # Contact: comms@conservative.org (202) 347-9388 NEWS & RELEASES . This initiative, spearheaded by CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp and UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. A New Chapter for the Future of Iran “CPAC for Iranians in Exile is about giving voice to the voiceless,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “We are honored to stand with Iranians in exile as they fight to reclaim their heritage, their faith, and their freedom from one of the world’s most oppressive regimes.” “The Iranian people have endured 46 years of tyranny,” added UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace. “This initiative is a rallying point — a place where they can be heard and engage meaningfully with U.S. policymakers. Jack Kalavritinos op-ed for RealClearHealth: Rx Price Controls Won’t Help Americans Jack Kalavritinos, Executive Director of the Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), has a new column in RealClearHealth where he points out that resurrecting old, failed policies won’t help Democrats prospects in the midterms. Democrats are desperate to show American voters that they are doing something—anything—before November and the expected red wave. But resurrecting old, failed ideas won’t help Americans. The legislative clock is running out because the general consensus is that Democrats will lose big in the midterm elections, and their efforts to overhaul the role of government as we know it will be shelved. There’s no chance that the torrent of government spending on social programs and green energy subsidies will continue once the House and Senate are no longer controlled by the far left of the Democratic Party. CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp responds to YouTube banning President Trump’s CPAC speech – again News & Releases Explore the latest updates, news, and product releases to stay informed and ahead of the curve. CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp responds to YouTube banning President Trump’s CPAC speech – again CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp released the following letter sent to Sundar Pichai, CEO of YouTube’s parent company Alphabet, after the Big Tech platform once again banned President Donald J. Trump’s speech. President Trump’s full speech can be viewed here . Dear Mr. Pichai: Once again, Google has chosen to play politics and censor, using its market dominant position to do so. While we are disappointed, we are not surprised. I recently learned that you have inappropriately taken down CPAC’s entire Saturday, February 26th livestream content from our recent conference in Orlando, Florida. In addition, you issued CPAC a “strike” for citing “mis-information” regarding the 2020 presidential election. Regardless of your personal beliefs and those of your senior leadership (not to mention your absolute liberal bias), there remain very serious questions about the way the 2020 election was conducted. Removing our content does not erase those questions, no matter how hard you try. Indeed, it is telling you offer no evidence that would demonstrate any falsity in the content you censored. Moreover, your action was needlessly indiscriminate. Aside from a discussion of the 2020 election, topics you censored include: Putin’s thuggery, the rise of antisemitism, and the need to value all human life. But I guess those concepts can be sacrificed on the altar of Orwellian political correctness. How ironic that during a dangerous time when autocrats like Vladimir Putin deny free people their rights in Russia and the Ukraine, Google would act similarly to stifle differing perspectives here at home. We all lament the destruction of civil discourse. But make no mistake, Google’s actions to suppress freedom of speech, thought and expression are what truly destroys civil discourse. It is when people are not allowed to express themselves freely that they take matters into their own hands. Such treatment of Americans cannot stand. CPAC will appropriately use its voice to urge conservatives in state capitals across the country, and the new majority in Congress come November – to pursue appropriate government regulation and legislation to hold Google accountable for its censorship. Neither Google nor its YouTube subsidiary can be allowed to run roughshod over the rights of Americans who are simply voicing their political beliefs. Matt Schlapp CPAC Chairman NEWS & RELEASES . Record Political Polarization Found in New CPAC Study of State Lawmaker Votes Across the Nation 50 States Ranked Most to Least Conservative ALEXANDRIA, VA (December 6, 2022) — The voting patterns of state lawmakers has reached a record new level of political polarization according to a just released analysis by the Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA). The comprehensive study examined all 7,400 state lawmakers from each of the 50 states, including over 265,000 individual votes across 3,500 different bills introduced in state legislatures. The nation’s 3,906 Republican state lawmakers voted conservative 80.89% of the time last year compared to 76.41% in 2020. The 3,223 Democrat lawmakers across the 50 state legislatures voted with the conservative position 15.90% of the time, down from 18.72% in 2020. The 64.99 percentage point divide between the two political parties marks the highest level of political polarization since the CLA became the first and only organization to track such data in 2015. The CLA, a project of CPAC Foundation and the American Conservative Union Foundation, also ranked all 50 state legislatures based on the conservative voting of their lawmakers across 186 policy categories. This past year Alabama lawmakers voted with the conservative position at the highest rate (74% of the time) and Massachusetts lawmakers the least (15% of the time). ACU Endorses Doug Collins The American Conservative Union (ACU) today announced its endorsement of Doug Collins for election in Georgia to the United States Senate. “Doug Collins is a proven fighter and champion for conservatives. He also has earned a lifetime rating of 88% from The American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) for his many years of conservative achievement. Conservatives across America have watched and cheered Doug as he stood up to Adam Schiff and the Radical Left to defend President Trump from their constant barrage of attacks. Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi and the Socialized Dems seek to impeach President Trump again, and America needs Doug Collins to lead the defense in the U.S. Senate. ACU is honored to endorse our friend, Doug Collins, for the United States Senate in Georgia,” said Chairman Matt Schlapp. Founded in 1964, the American Conservative Union (ACU) is the nation’s original conservative organization. For more than fifty years, ACU has served as an umbrella organization harnessing the collective strength of conservative organizations fighting for Americans who are concerned with liberty, personal responsibility, traditional values, and strong national defense. - Statement on President Donald Trump’s Arraignment
Statement on President Donald Trump’s Arraignment News & Releases Explore the latest updates, news, and product releases to stay informed and ahead of the curve. Statement on President Donald Trump’s Arraignment “Today’s events highlight the dangers of a so-called “justice” system that allows unaccountable prosecutors to put politics ahead of public safety. This is eye-opening for many conservatives, regardless of whether they support Donald J. Trump. When every aspect of life is governed by bureaucrats and regulations, and prosecutorial power is unchecked, it is all too easy to become a target. Soros-funded prosecutor Alvin Bragg campaigned in ultra-liberal Manhattan on investigating Trump. Desperate to fulfill his campaign promise, he searched high and low to find anything that could support a charge. Bragg then relied on testimony from a convicted liar to validate it. This is not how a fair justice system should work. Former Attorney General and Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson said the duty of a prosecutor is not to notch wins in court. Rather, the duty of a prosecutor is to seek justice. Alvin Bragg has failed in his duty. The Trump indictment is little more than politics dressed up as prosecution, and it should end. At a minimum, Bragg should recuse himself, given his Soros connections. And any further litigation should be moved to a venue where the President can be judged by an unbiased jury of his peers. If Trump can get a fair trial, we are confident he will be vindicated.” Matt Schlapp Chairman, CPAC David Safavian General Counsel, CPAC ### NEWS & RELEASES .
