CPAC Releases West Virginia Legislative Scorecard, Revealing the Most Conservative State Capitol in the Nation. ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 9, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s analysis shows that West Virginia’s overall score increased by 8% since the past year, making its GOP-dominated legislature the highest scoring in the country. This sizeable increase is in large part a result of the major gains that Republicans made during the 2022 election and the continued commitment of existing legislators to conservative principles. Republican averages remained in the 80s, continuing their trend of conservative achievement. ACU Foundation Releases Latest Scores of Virginia General Assembly A total of 39 lawmakers in the Virginia General Assembly qualified as conservatives during the 2020 legislative session — a dramatic increase from the 16 who qualified as conservatives the prior year, according to scores released by the American Conservative Union Foundation. The Republicans in the state House improved their average conservative voting record, while Democrats in the House became more radical. CPAC Foundation Releases 53rd Edition of the Ratings of Congress Alexandria, VA – CPAC Foundation has released the 53rd Edition of its annual Ratings of Congress. This report, widely considered the “gold standard” on evaluating political ideology, includes an exhaustive compilation of 76 key roll call votes in the House and 41 key roll call votes in the Senate. This comprehensive report evaluates more than 35,000 individual votes cast by all 535 members of Congress across the full spectrum of policy issues. “CPAC is excited to present the 53rd edition of CPAC Foundation’s Ratings of Congress. All lawmakers in America at the federal and state levels are scored on a 100-point scale. Among the lowest scoring Republican Members of the U.S. Senate were Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY-68%), Mitt Romney (R-UT-59%), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK-55%), and Susan Collins (R-ME-54%). Despite being touted by the media as ‘moderates,’ the highest scoring Democrats in the U.S. Senate received the following paltry scores: Joe Manchin (D-WV-30%), Jon Tester (D-MT-15%), and Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ-12%). Congress became even more polarized during President Biden’s third year in office. Democrats only voted with the conservative position an average of 2% of the time, demonstrating a level of cohesion not found among Republicans, the likes of whom average an 80%. In total, Congress votes with the conservative position just 41% of the time.
