Alexandria, VA — CPAC released the following statement on Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger’s attempt implement the failed Ranked Choice Voting System. “Georgia’s legislature enhanced their election laws to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat. As a result, all elections this cycle saw high turnout for both parties. In his vain attempt to garner attention from the media and the socialist left, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is looking to disenfranchise voters by making it harder and more confusing to vote by seeking to change the Georgia voting system to Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). “Replacing a proven and effective voting system for no good reason other than to wield power over the people is disingenuous and wrong. “Ranked choice voting is wrought with issues . RCV is confusing to the average voter which leads to less voter participation, especially in off year or non-marquee races. RCV is a much more arduous process to tabulate delaying the final results for days and even weeks. “When all legal votes are counted and each voter is given one choice and one vote, our system works. Secretary Raffensperger is looking to take the place of former Congresswoman Liz Cheney as the “Republican” darling of the left. Washington Legislature Rises in National Conservative Rankings Washington Legislature Rises in National Conservative Rankings The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), a project of CPAC Foundation and the American Conservative Union Foundation, conducts an annual, in-depth analysis to rate all 8,000 lawmakers in America, revealing their positions on a wide variety of issues directly affecting our communities and families. Washington Rises in National Conservative Rankings CPAC Presents 40 Lawmakers Awards for Conservative Voting ALEXANDRIA, VA (August 1, 2022) — The voting of Washington’s Republican state lawmakers is trending more conservative according to a new analysis conducted by the Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), a project of CPAC Foundation and the American Conservative Union Foundation. This year, 40 state lawmakers have earned awards from CPAC for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time, a significant increase compared to last year where just 23 lawmakers earned awards. Additionally, the work of Republicans to reject the increasingly radical agenda of Governor Jay Inslee raised the conservative rating of the legislature from 35% to 39%. This rating places Washington as the 34th ranked conservative legislature. CPAC analyzes the voting records of all 7,400 state lawmakers in America to determine the rankings. The conservative rating is calculated through CPAC’s scorecards and is based on lawmaker voting across 186 policy areas ranging from cultural and life issues to tax, fiscal, and regulatory policies. CPAC Support of Historic Tax Relief in Missouri CPAC Support of Historic Tax Relief in Missouri Alexandria, VA — David H. Safavian, CPAC General Counsel and Senior Vice President sent the following letter to express CPAC’s support of HCS SS SCS SBs 3 & 5. Dear Representative, As the failed policies of the Biden administration continue to cause rampant inflation and shrink the United States economy, families across America need real relief that grows the economy. As such, the Conservative Political Action Coalition (CPAC) supports HCS SS SCS SBs 3 & 5 to provide meaningful tax reform for Missourians. Specifically, HCS SS SCS SBs 3 & 5 would reduce the top rate of individual income tax to 4.95% beginning with the 2023 calendar year; add an additional 0.15% reduction upon meeting a revenue trigger; authorize three additional 0.1% reductions upon meeting other revenue triggers; and exempt taxpayers’ first $1,000 of income (an increase from the current first $100). Currently, Missouri has the 26th highest top income tax rate on individuals in the United States. With the passage of this bill, at the onset of 2023, Missouri will improve their standing to the 16th lowest, and 13th lowest when the bill is fully implemented. Enacting these bills would greatly increase Missouri’s competitiveness in attracting investment to the state. Because tax burdens have significant consequences for all Americans, we have recommended to our sister organization, the CPAC Foundation Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), to positively score these bills. As such, a vote in favor of HC SSS SCS SBs 3 & 5 to provide meaningful tax relief would increase your CPAC legislative rating. Through both its Ratings of Congress and Ratings of the States, the CLA has held lawmakers accountable by scoring them on legislation that impacts taxation.
