- America UnCanceled: Mercedes Schlapp & Anne Funder
Mercedes Schlapp and Anne Funder, who is an “angel mom”, had a conversation on America UnCanceled . Anne lost her son Weston to fentanyl in 2022, who was a 15-year-old freshman in high school. Anne is committed to bringing awareness to the dangers of fentanyl. Mercedes highlighted how over 73,000 Americans died of fentanyl related overdoses in 2022. The issue of fentanyl has, according to Mercedes, “decimated communities and destroyed families”. Anne explains how these fentanyl related deaths are a direct result of destructive border policies. Weston, her son, she adds, grew up in a normal family environment in California, going to Dana Hills High School. Weston had been prescribed Percocet by his doctor, but Anne didn’t want him to take it, so he decided to find other ways to get the drug. The drug he found, Anne adds, wasn’t Percocet at all but merely powder mixed with fentanyl. Anne says Weston was her first child of four and “taught her how to love.” That is why she is so enthusiastic about bringing awareness to the dangers of fentanyl. Anne explains how her faith was affected by being feeling alienated from God and that she felt abandoned. She, however, was asked to speak at the Republican National Convention and felt a renewed sense of faith and purpose because spreading awareness about the dangers of fentanyl would help other families and save lives. Anne stresses that “this can happen to you, we were the all-American family, we had a beautiful life”, and that parents need to communicate with their children about peer pressure and the dangers of drugs. She blames the Biden Administration and California Governor Gavin Newsom for the rampant influx of fentanyl over the southern border, “ we need to work on this country, we can't just allow people to pour over our borders and we can’t allow the cartels to ‘run a muck’, that we can’t allow China to ship whatever they want to our country and to the cartels that are going to bring it over our borders, it was dangerous what was happening over the past four years. I think that if President Trump were still in office that my son would probably still be alive because in under 100 days, he has gotten everything under control”. Mercedes then highlights the Trump Administration’s commitment to reducing illegal migration, “first 100 days, 150,000 arrested under President Trump, 135,000 deported, they are working day in and day out over at the Department of Justice to stop the fentanyl from coming into this country. So efforts are definitely being made to stop the fentanyl from coming in”. Mercedes and Anne stress that America is headed in the right direction under the Trump Administration and that stopping illegal drugs and saving lives should be a cause for bipartisan support. Many Democrats, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D), have instead given direction to illegal immigrants on how to resist searches and how to avoid warrants. Anne says that, “instead they [Democrats] themselves should be investigated…I don’t see her [Ocasio-Cortez] protecting Americans”. Anne then highlights how past Democratic administrations, such as the Clinton or Obama administrations, deported millions of illegal immigrants, and that there is nothing wrong with protecting Americans. - Trump’s First 100 Days: Criminal Justice Reform
President Trump’s return to the White House was immediately defined by fervent executive action ranging from flurries of executive orders to drastic deregulation. The Trump Administration has been keen to reshape policy at every level to reverse the harmful rules and regulations of the previous administration, and their approach to criminal justice reform is no different. In the first 100 days of his presidency, President Trump has directed numerous initiatives restoring accountability to the criminal justice system and mirroring many of the same reform efforts that the CPAC Foundation’s Nolan Center for Justice has actively pursued at both the state and federal level. Terminating Biden’s Criminal Justice Framework Immediately following his inauguration, President Trump rescinded a plethora of Biden’s executive orders, one of which established harmful federal law enforcement policies: “Advancing Effective, Accountable Policing and Criminal Justice Practices To Enhance Public Trust and Public Safety” Action: Imposed a federal one-size fits all approach to local policing, embedded DEI principles into federal policing policy, and limited police access to military equipment and certain uses of force. Impact: Eroded the autonomy of law enforcement agencies and made policing less safe for both officers and the public. Instituted discriminatory and equity-based approaches to law enforcement. Support for Rescission: Empowering local agencies and prioritizing rehabilitation and due process leads to more effective criminal justice outcomes than policies that diminish local law enforcement authority. The Biden Administration’s focus on DEI-related initiatives over proven law enforcement strategies weakened respect for the rule of law and conflicted with the principles of fair and effective justice. Trump’s Executive Order: A New Framework “Strengthening America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens” Action: Expands resources and training for police and increases law enforcement access to military equipment. The order also directs legal action against officials obstructing law enforcement or using race-based initiatives in policing. Rationale: By providing officers with robust legal protection, law enforcement will be empowered to police more effectively. Holding officials accountable for hindering police efforts will restore respect for the rule of law and enhance public safety. Support: At CPAC 2025, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday spoke at length about the importance of supporting law enforcement and ensuring that officers are properly trained and equipped to keep communities safe, all of which are emphasized in this executive order. Regulatory Actions Impacting Criminal Justice The United States Sentencing Commission (USSC) is implementing major reforms to the Federal Sentencing Guidelines effective November 1, 2025, representing the most comprehensive update in years. Alongside these amendments, the USSC is also establishing two new advisory groups to guarantee that sentencing policies are informed by real-world experience, expert analysis, and high-quality data. Together, these initiatives aim to modernize sentencing, promote fairness, and enhance transparency and accountability in the federal justice system: Sentencing Guidelines for United States Courts Action: These amendments alter a vast array of provisions concerning sentencing, including establishing a simplified three-step sentencing process and allowing early terminations for rehabilitated individuals. Other changes include fairer treatment of low-level drug offenders, preventing minor traffic stops from inflating criminal history, and emphasizing statutory factors for individualized sentencing. Rationale: These reforms aim to reduce unwarranted disparities and over-supervision while ensuring sentences are clearly justified and reviewable. By focusing on the defendant’s specific role and conduct, the amendments support reintegration, fairness, and proportionality in sentencing. The changes seek to make the system more consistent, just, and easier to apply, ultimately promoting public trust and equitable outcomes. Support: CPAC has consistently supported reforms to sentencing guidelines that increase judicial discretion, reduce unnecessary incarceration, and prioritize transparency, consistency, and second chances over rigid uniform sentencing. USSC’s proposed amendments align with these values by simplifying the sentencing process and ensuring that penalties are proportionate. Sentence Impact Advisory Group Action: USSC is creating the Sentence Impact Advisory Group (SIAG) and is soliciting applications for membership from a diverse range of stakeholders, including judges, attorneys, corrections ocials, academics, and those directly affected by federal sentencing. SIAG will provide expert, ongoing feedback on how changes to federal sentencing guidelines impact real-world outcomes, making the process more transparent and informed by practical experience. Rationale: By incorporating diverse perspectives and real-world data, SIAG aims to help the Commission quickly identify and address issues such as disparities or unintended consequences arising from guideline changes. This approach ensures that sentencing reforms are practical, data-driven, and responsive to the needs of the justice system. Support: The creation of the SIAG aligns with CPAC’s emphasis on stakeholder engagement and data-driven reform by ensuring that those directly affected by federal sentencing, including individuals and families, have a voice in shaping guidelines. This approach reflects CPAC’s broader advocacy for reforms supporting more effective and fair sentencing policies. Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Research and Data Practices Action: USSC is establishing a new Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Research and Data Practices and is seeking applications for membership from experts in criminal justice, academia, data science, law, and public policy. This group will evaluate USSC’s current research and data collection methods and recommend best practices to improve the quality, transparency, and utility of federal sentencing data. Rationale: By enhancing how sentencing data is collected and analyzed, the advisory group will help ensure that policy decisions are informed by accurate and relevant information, allowing policymakers to identify what works and address disparities. Support: CPAC strongly advocates for sentencing policies grounded in transparency, rigorous data analysis, and accountability. The establishment of USSC’s Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Research and Data Practices aligns with CPAC’s emphasis on incorporating wide-ranging expert input to ensure reforms are informed by accurate and meaningful data. Conclusion President Trump’s first 100 days have marked a decisive shift in federal criminal justice and law enforcement policy, characterized by the rapid reversal of Biden-era initiatives and the introduction of a new, assertive framework for policing and sentencing. Through executive orders, the administration has prioritized empowering law enforcement, restoring local agency autonomy, and increasing accountability for both offenders and ocials who obstruct police work. Simultaneously, major reforms to the federal sentencing guidelines and the creation of new advisory groups signal a commitment to modernizing the justice system, promoting fairness, and grounding policy in real-world data and expert input. Together, these sweeping changes will transform America’s criminal justice system, hopefully resulting in lasting impacts on law enforcement, the courts, and communities that future administrations will not dismantle.
- Schlapp Down: Recapping the first 100 days of President Trump's return to the White House
It’s been 100 days since President Trump took office for the second time. His campaign and election victory were historic and his first 100 days in office have exceeded expectations. Matt and Mercedes Schlapp weigh in on the major developments. The Laken Riley Act is one of Trump’s major accomplishments in his first few months in office. The act is named after college student Laken Riley who was brutally murdered by an illegal alien. “The whole objective of BLM was make us be silent about crimes committed by people of color or illegals and what we’ve come to realize over time is that that was a tactic as they moved millions of people in through the southern border, many of them were gang members or criminals,” said Matt Schlapp. “It was all done purposefully to get us to be quiet about saying anything. Finally, we can highlight no matter what color skin people are, if you let millions of people in who we haven’t vetted who are literally fleeing their countries, you’re going to have madness inside your own country.” President Trump’s other accomplishments include bringing Israel closer to securing peace, securing the border, and cutting back on federal spending. Watch the Schlapps’ full take on all these issues on social media @CPAC.
- Center for Regulatory Freedom Contributes to Trump First 100 Days Deregulation
CPAC Foundation’s Center for Regulatory Freedom (CRF) has engaged with the Trump administration directly in its first 100 days to secure several policy victories for the conservative movement. CRF has played a key role in the federal rulemaking process, gaining increased influence during President Trump’s term due to his emphasis on deregulation. In his first 100 days back in office, CRF secured two regulatory victories and expects more as the administration continues to solicit public input on executive policies: SSA Removes "Gender-Inclusive Language" Following CRF's Comments Problem: During the transition between President Trump’s electoral victory and his inauguration, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced plans to modify Social Security records to incorporate "gender-inclusive language." Action: CRF submitted comments opposing this move, arguing that the inclusion of "gender-inclusive language" contradicted Executive Order 14168, “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.” Response: Following CRF’s comments, the SSA issued a correction on February 20, removing gender references from Social Security records in direct response to the concerns raised by CRF, ensuring compliance with Executive Order 14168. CRF's Input Sparks FCC Revision of Georouting Proposal Problem: In November 2024, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) proposed a rule requiring text providers to share georouting data from messages sent to the 988 Lifeline. Action: CRF raised privacy concerns about mandatory georouting, particularly for individuals with mental health issues who expect confidentiality when reaching out to the 988 Lifeline. CRF also recommended an informed consent model as an alternative to georouting. Response: On March 4, the FCC issued a “Third Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking,” specifically requesting additional feedback on the privacy concerns raised and acknowledging the informed consent approach suggested by CRF. CRF has been instrumental in influencing key policy changes, offering direct input on important issues such as border enforcement, healthcare, and environmental regulations. As the administration continues to tackle the remaining waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal government, CRF will remain at the forefront, working to secure additional victories and protect taxpayer interests. Through direct engagement with federal agencies, CRF has helped drive the administration’s efforts to curb government overreach and enforce accountability, and anticipates more impactful changes in the coming months.
- Government's Secret Digital Currency Control Plan Revealed
On a recent episode of The Tucker Carlson Show, former Bush administration official Catherine Austin Fitts revealed the government's secret plan to control the masses through digital currency. CPAC has long been skeptical of central digital currency and the government's use of a central digital currency to invade the privacy of Americans, control what they buy, and thereby, control what they think and believe. Fitts confirmed our fears. "It's absolutely happening, and its been happening for a long time. In other words, this is like an invisible corral that they've been building around you for a long, long time because how do a few sneak up on the many? Well, you have to do it very quietly, invisibly before you throw the trap," said Fitts. The pattern of governments shifting towards central digital currency with the ability to spy on citizens and control people through money has pushed many toward the freedom of cryptocurrency that is not tied to any one government. Bitcoin mogul Michael Saylor spoke at CPAC in DC 2025 on the issue, explaining the freedom of cryptocurrency that is drawing so many people to alternative currencies. "Bitcoin is money that they can't take away. What freedom do you have if you have all of your money in a bank that can freeze it? What freedom do you have if you have your money embedded in a currency where someone can print four x more of it without your approval and debase it to zero?" posed Saylor. "You only have conditional freedom until the government changes and they just take away that freedom, and then when they take away your wealth, when they take away your economic power, they're going to starve you to death and then, you've got nothing."
- President Trump's First 100 Days Cut Regulatory Red Tape
President Trump’s first 100 days in office have been characterized by some of the largest deregulatory efforts in the modern era, a contrast to the previous administration that grew the regulatory state by $5 billion a day. Now, proclamations, executive orders, presidential memoranda, and specific agency actions have been issued at a rapid rate, unraveling the decades-old federal bureaucracy that hindered the success of the first Trump Administration. Deregulation by Executive Order President Trump has wielded the executive power of the presidency to hold the federal bureaucracy accountable. As of April 24, 2025, President Trump has signed 137 executive orders. Unlike previous administrations, President Trump has not utilized the powers of the president to expand agencies’ independent regulatory authority. Instead, President Trump’s executive orders have spurred a deregulatory renaissance: “Unleashing American Energy” E.O. 14154: Directs all agencies to identify, revise, or rescind agency actions that burden energy development, mining, or infrastructure. Support: CPAC has long championed deregulation and expanded fossil fuel development, making this executive order a central component of its policy agenda. “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity” E.O. 14173: Orders all executive departments and agencies to terminate all policies, guidance, and regulations that incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion. Support: This order advances CPAC’s agenda of eliminating DEI mandates and promoting merit-based decision-making in both federal contracting and the private sector. “Unleashing Prosperity Through Deregulation” E.O. 14192: Mandates that for every new regulation proposed, federal agencies must identify at least 10 existing regulations to repeal. Support: CPAC previously advocated for the reinstatement of the first Trump Administration’s “one-in, two-out” rule for issuing new regulations and supports this accelerated effort to minimize government intervention. “Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies” E.O. 14215: Requires all agencies’ interpretations of the law to conform to the President’s. Support: CPAC’s advocacy efforts include promoting policies that reduce agency overreach and enhance accountability within the federal regulatory framework, both of which are accomplished by this order. Agency Actions: What’s Different? The previous administration used agencies’ rulemaking authorities to impose staggering costs on the American people. Former President Biden’s exorbitant policies cost the average household more than $15,000 per year, totaling $2.1 trillion in additional annual costs to American taxpayers. President Trump has utilized federal agencies in the opposite direction, directing them to solicit stakeholder feedback and cut through regulatory red tape: Environmental Protection Agency Action: On March 27, the EPA sought stakeholder feedback on implementing the "waters of the United States" definition following the Sackett v. EPA decision. Rationale: Defining "waters of the United States" is crucial for implementing the CWA, as prior regulations have burdened individuals with penalties for unintentional noncompliance while failing to settle the question of what constitutes these waters. Support: CRF filed comments recommending that the EPA clarify definitions for "relatively permanent" tributaries, avoid penalizing inadvertent violations, reserve criminal penalties for harmful violations, and ensure all guidance documents follow APA requirements for transparency. U.S. Department of Homeland Security Action: Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem issued a determination under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 to waive laws and regulations hindering southern border enforcement. Rationale: Environmental laws like the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and Migratory Bird Conservation Act have long obstructed border enforcement, but the State Department’s recent determination allows those regulatory barriers to be waived. Support: CRF filed comments opposing the previous administration’s proposal to designate a high-traffic border area as critical habitat under the Endangered Species Act, arguing it would block essential border security infrastructure. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Action: HHS announced numerous revisions to regulations under the Affordable Care Act, excluding DACA recipients from health plan eligibility, strengthening income verification to prevent fraud, and removing sex-trait modification procedures from essential health benefits starting in 2026. Rationale: The Congressional Budget Office estimates federal health insurance subsidies will reach $3.3 trillion by 2033, prompting a needed overhaul to address the harmful healthcare policies of the Biden-Harris administration. Support: CRF submitted comments in support of HHS' revisions and urged the Trump Administration to amend the Affordable Care Act with clearer language and codified limits on SEP and subsidy eligibility to protect the reforms and prevent rising healthcare and taxpayer costs. The first 100 days of President Trump’s term have demonstrated a significant commitment to reducing regulatory burdens, with major strides in deregulation and executive actions that align with CRF’s priorities. CRF celebrates these efforts as beneficial for American taxpayers, American business owners, and the integrity of the federal government. The Trump administration is cutting the red tape burdening the American government and economy.
- Trump Can Veto The “White Guilt Treaty”
The Mauritius government is demanding that the UK government sign a treaty to give Mauritius land. The Leftist UK government is poised to accept this absurd treaty. They’re even paying Mauritius 18 billion British Pounds to take the land. This treaty is based entirely on White Guilt. Mauritius has no legitimate claim to the Chagos Islands. 99% of the Mauritian population has no cultural, ancestral, geographic, or historical connection to the Chagos Islands. The vast majority of the Mauritian people are descended from Indian workers who came to Mauritius in the last 300 years. They were never connected to the Chagos Islands, or any nearby Island/people for that matter. The claim made by the Mauritian government is based on an obscure legal technicality on a treaty from 1814, not the fact that a small number of Chagossians settled in Mauritius and comprise a poor underclass there. Many Chagossians in Mauritius, the Seychelles, and the U.K. would like to return to their home islands and have their independence, but they were never consulted about this treaty. CPAC strongly supports the right to self determination for the Chagossians. This treaty would be laughed out of court in any serious judicial system, but Radical Leftist Keir Starmer is trying to betray UK citizens by giving away land and tax dollars for no reason. Why does this matter to the United States? The Chagos Islands contain the American Diego Garcia military base, and Mauritius is a puppet state of the CCP. Handing over the Chagos Islands would give China concerning proximity to a U.S. military base that is of utmost importance in protecting U.S. trade and industry in the Indian Ocean. The agreement would also give China a major payday in the amount of 18 billion pounds paid to the Mauritians. The cards are in President Trump's hands, however. President Trump has a de jure veto power that can stop the White Guilt Treaty from being implemented. As a part of the agreement of the Diego Garcia Base, America gets a say over whatever happens to the Islands. Instead of giving the islands away to Mauritius and the CCP, President Trump should endorse an independent Chagos Islands State under US protection. The Chagos Islands People themselves were never consulted about this White Guilt Treaty to give their home islands to Mauritius. The people who have the most legitimate claim to the Chagos Islands are the Chagos Islands people themselves. President Trump should allow the Chagos Islands people to create their own independent state which will guarantee that Chinese influence is not present. CPAC believes in the free exercise of the inherent rights of the individual, something that communist China seeks to eradicate. It would be in the spirit of liberty and self-determination - and also in America’s national interest - for President Trump to reject Starmer’s White Guilt Treaty and support a free independent Chagos state which could coexist with and be protected by the Diego Garcia Air Base. CPAC will always be a proponent of standing up to the CCP and strongly supports the independence of the Chagossians from the Chinese controlled Mauritians. As such, CPAC urges President Trump to say 'No' to the White Guilt Treaty, “No” to radical Leftist race guilt, and “'No” to Chinese economic and military expansion.
- What was Pope Francis really like? Frank Pavone Answers
The world knew Pope Francis as a humble, generous, and caring man. But was he really like that in person? “He could be very, very kind, I mean, the times that I spoke to him, very, very kind, very fatherly and encouraging but if he was upset with somebody, he could be pretty scary,” said Frank Pavone on a recent episode of America Uncanceled. “He was known to lose his patience at times and I think, sometimes we saw that even on the public stage.” Pope Francis leaves behind a mixed legacy. He is celebrated for his charity to the poor and bringing awareness to the difficulties of the least fortunate. His pontificate was also a historic one as the first Jesuit and first South American pope and for the great diversity of his cardinal appointments. His lack of clarity on central Church teachings, however, ostracized many traditional Catholics and his vagueness allowed the mainstream media to spread false interpretations of Catholic teachings and beliefs, creating confusion among both the Church faithful and non-Catholics. Rumors of a temper and dictatorial governing style behind closed doors also contributed to a muddled public image. Pope Francis’ mixed legacy is coming to a head as the world remembers him in the days following his death and as the Church prepares for the next pope. Who will be his successor? The answer to that is unclear but the time is ripe for an extraordinary and devout man to lead the Church through this troubling time.
- CPAC Board Member Erik Prince Offers to Help Congo
CPAC board member Erik Prince is stepping up to aid the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Congo has experienced heightened turmoil in recent months with rebel gangs rising up to claim the capital city and the country’s valuable mineral mines. Congo is an important country for its mining of rare minerals and minerals key to electronic production including cobalt, gold, diamond, tin, and tantalum. Prince has brokered an agreement in January to secure Congo’s mineral wealth and potentially bring peace and stability to the country. CPAC is working to raise awareness of the atrocities rebel terrorist groups are committing in Congo. Rebel groups are not only seeking to control the nation’s riches but impose Islam on the Christians there by brute force, including cruel and unusual deaths. Learn more about Prince’s efforts here .
- America UnCanceled: Mercedes Schlapp & Frank Pavone
Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, weighs in on Pope Francis’ mixed legacy and the forthcoming traditional events in the wake of his death. Who really was Pope Francis? According to Pavone, he was a kind and flawed human. “He could be very, very kind, I mean, the times that I spoke to him, very, very kind, very fatherly and encouraging but if he was upset with somebody, he could be pretty scary,” said Pavone. “He was known to lose his patience at times and I think, sometimes we saw that even on the public stage.” Following his death, the Church will follow a set of customs, including special masses and prayer services, and a mourning period of nine days. After the mourning period, the college of cardinals will gather in a conclave to elect Pope Francis' successor. Watch the full conversation on CPAC+ to hear Pavone’s commentary on who could be the next pope.
