CPAC Releases Mississippi Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a Disappointingly Predictable Lack of Fiscal Responsibility.
ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 4, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s latest analysis reveals that Mississippi continued its trend of passing financially irresponsible bills, garnering the legislature low scores consonant with its performance in previous years. The combination of this legislation and a relative lack of conservative bills earned Republicans an average of only 61%.
“Mississippi’s legislature earned one of the lowest average ratings among Republican controlled states.” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Despite having a sizeable majority over Democrats, Mississippian Republicans allow themselves to become steeped in cronyism while only addressing some of the major conservative issues of the day.”
The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Mississippi address government spending, parental rights in education, and Second Amendment freedoms. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Mississippi legislature.
The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area.
