CPAC Releases Iowa Legislative Scorecard, Revealing a State Committed to Advancing Conservative Principles.
ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 10, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s latest analysis reveals that Iowan Republicans continued their trend of passing strongly conservative bills and legislation, boosting most of their scores into the mid- to high-80s. On the other hand, Democrat scores have sunk to their lowest since 2014.
“Iowa’s passage of universal school choice and dramatic reduction of the state bureaucracy are major wins for students and taxpayers.” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Governor Kim Reynolds and the Republicans in the legislature should be commended for their hard work and are rewarded with high marks on our scorecard.”
CPAC recognizes the following members of the Iowa State Legislature with CPAC’s Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time during the 2023 session.
Senate:
Waylon Brown (100%)
Dennis Guth (100%)
Dawn Driscoll (93%)
House:
Skyler Wheeler (94%)
Robert Henderson (93%)
Additionally, many lawmakers in the Iowa State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2023 session.
The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Iowa address school choice, parental rights in education, and national security. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Iowa legislature.
The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area.
