US Will Drop Russia-Ukraine Peace Push in Absence of Progress, Rubio Warns

Statement from CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp and CPAC Board Member Gordon Chang on Speaker McCarthy’s Meeting with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen.

Republicans in Congress remain fully committed to ensuring that our allies will not be abandoned. We therefore unequivocally support House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.

CPAC believes that peace comes through strength and that a strong relationship with Taiwan is not only critical for U.S. security interests in the East, but also for Taiwan’s protection against China.  With Taiwan’s proximity to China, Taiwan’s security relies on the West’s and, specifically, the United States’ unwavering commitment to supporting our allies against tyrannical dictatorships.

It is therefore critical that America positions itself to signal strength and reinforces our resolute dedication to supporting Taiwan and democratic nations.

Defending Taiwan is defending America.
