ACU Launches Ad Campaign Urging President Biden to Reverse Course on WTO TRIPS Waiver
Campaign to Focus on Biden Caving to Far Left Radicals by Undermining American Innovators
The American Conservative Union (ACU) has launched an ad campaign condemning President Joe Biden’s support for the World Trade Organization (WTO) proposal that would waive intellectual property (IP) protections for COVID-19 treatments and vaccines. ACU’s ad highlighting how Biden has undermined American innovation by caving to the radical Left will run via cable, broadcast television, and digital.
“The United States is responsible for the world’s most effective COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, all developed and distributed in record time,” said ACU Executive Vice President Dan Schneider. “This is because of the American patent system, which protects groundbreaking technologies and incentivizes innovators to pursue medical breakthroughs when we need them most. The Biden administration’s callous disregard for this precious IP, coupled with its gross misunderstanding of the market forces that drive these world-changing innovations, puts hard-earned American innovation in the hands of our enemies and opens the floodgates to counterfeit vaccines. Despite the United States already footing nearly half of the total budget for COVAX, the global vaccination effort, the president is sending a clear message to American businesses: ‘We can take what is yours whenever we want it.'”
“For years, China and other totalitarian regimes have sought the aggressive expansion of influence and allies across the world in an attempt to dethrone the United States as the beacon of democracy and hope in the world. By forfeiting American intellectual property, President Joe Biden is setting a dangerous new foreign policy precedent—the United States will simply give away the fruits of American investment and innovation to anyone who demands it.”
“As such, ACU urges the Biden administration to immediately reverse its support of the WTO TRIPS waiver and lawmakers to push back on the president’s attempts to prioritize political expediency over American innovation.”
