ACU Foundation Releases Latest Scores of Vermont General Assembly
The Vermont General Assembly saw a significant increase in the number of conservatives in the House of Representatives — from only 3 the previous year to 23, according to the American Conservative Union Foundation’s most recent annual ratings of state legislatures.
The American Conservative Union Foundation conducts an annual, in-depth analysis to rate all 8,000 lawmakers in America, revealing their positions on a wide variety of issues directly affecting our communities and families.
None of the state senators qualified as conservative, and the general assembly continued to push a far-left agenda. Chief among those liberal agenda items were: undermining police officers in the state by exposing law enforcement officers to unreasonable criminal liabilities, increasing utility costs for residents of the state by further subsidizing “green” energy projects, and making a mockery of fair and secure elections by implementing a full-scale vote-by-mail program. Both chambers also defeated amendments to create penalties for ballot harvesting, further eroding confidence in the election system. Many in the House of Representatives showed their truly partisan nature by employing their official powers to pass a resolution attacking President Donald Trump’s use of social media.

For the first time, voters have access to a huge breadth of information that offers a distinct impression of the way lawmakers view the role of government in a person’s life.”
ACUF’s Ratings of Congress and Ratings of the States are initiatives of ACUF’s Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA). These ratings are designed to reflect how over 8,000 elected officials across the nation view the role of government while illustrating the differences between chambers of the legislature and revealing lawmakers’ positions across 186 policy areas that directly affect citizens.
ACU Foundation reviewed each piece of legislation voted on in both chambers of the legislature to produce average scores of each chamber as well as individual scores for each sitting member.
