New Analysis Reveals Arizona’s Political Polarization
CPAC & ACUF Release 2021 Legislative Scorecard


ALEXANDRIA, VA (December 16, 2021)— Arizona’s legislature is one of the most divided in the country, according to voting record analysis from CPAC. The newly released scorecard shows Republican’s voting with the conservative position on legislation an average of 86% of the time, while Democrat’s average a mere 17%.

In total, 40 members of the Arizona legislature will be eligible to receive awards at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) taking place in Orlando, Florida from February 24-27, 2022 for voting with the conservative position on legislation more than 80% of the time.


Members receiving the Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% include:

Sen. Warren Petersen (98%)

Rep. Travis W. Grantham (98%)

Rep. Judy Burges (98%)

Rep. John Fillmore (96%)

Sen. Michelle Ugenti-Rita (95%)

Rep. Shawnna Bolick (93%)

Rep. Joseph Chaplik (93%)

Rep. Jacqueline Parker (93%)

Rep. Frank Carroll (91%)

Among the 94 roll call votes scored by the American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF) are bills aimed at increasing election integrity (HB 2569, HB 2905, SB 1713), efforts to limit overregulation (HB 2759), the Second Amendment Firearm Freedom Act (HB 2111), legislation protecting against government-imposed “vaccine passports” (SB 1824), and efforts to ban Critical Race Theory in schools (HB 2898).

ACUF’s Ratings of Congress and Ratings of the States are initiatives of American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF)’s Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA). These ratings are designed to reflect how over 8,000 elected officials across the nation view the role of government while illustrating the differences between chambers of the legislature and revealing lawmakers’ positions across 186 policy areas that directly affect citizens.
