SS 1
Nuking the TABOR to Pay for Welfare Programs.
2023 - Colorado Senate

Vote Description
During their first special session of 2023, legislators passed a package of bills (HB 1001, HB 1002, HB 1008, and SB 3) that substantially diminished the returns that would be given back to taxpayers through the TABOR, funnelling the money instead into expensive welfare programs and other redistributive measures. For example, the legislature passed a $30,000,000 rental assistance emergency grant program and raised the earned income tax credit, both of which are measures that are purely intended to redistribute wealth in classic socialist fashion. CPAC recognizes that Colorado's voters already voted against such measures in the defeat of Proposition HH, opposes increasing the tax burden on taxpayers over the long run, opposes the expansion of welfare programs, and opposed this package of bills. The Senate's 22-12 vote on November 20, 2024 to pass HB 1001 was used to score this abysmal special session.
