HB 1225
Assailing the Second Amendment Under the Guise of Protecting Elections
2025 - Colorado Senate
Vote Description

HB 1225 presumes visibly carrying a firearm while interacting with those engaged in canvassing, administering elections, or attempting to vote is “intimidation.” The measure allows those who claim they have endured “intimidation” to sue the individual holding the firearm. CPAC believes that lawful, responsible gun owners should not be treated the same as criminals brandishing weapons. Moreover, CPAC is concerned that this same standard could be applied in other contexts, making it increasingly difficult to lawfully carry firearms. For these reasons, CPAC opposes this bill. The Colorado Senate passed HB 1225 on April 28, 2025, in a 22-12 vote. The Colorado House of Representatives passed HB 1225 on April 1, 2025, in a 37-25 vote. Governor Jared Polis signed the measure into law.
