SB 911
Reducing Penalties for Unemployment Fraud During a Fraud Epidemic.
2023 - Connecticut Senate
Vote Description

This bill raises the threshold amount of money that a person must wrongfully obtain from the unemployment insurance system through fraud in order for their crime to count as a felony. According to Connecticut’s own Department of Labor, about 75% of the unemployment claims that the state currently receives are fraudulent. CPAC believes that it is foolish to lower the consequences of committing unemployment fraud when a large amount of fraud is occurring and, therefore, opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on May 4, 2023 by a vote of 23-11 but the bill never became law.
