HB 1120
Forcing Charter Schools to Take on the Weaknesses of Public Schools.
2023 - Illinois Senate
Vote Description

This bill requires charter schools to insert a “union neutrality” clause into their charter. This clause states that the school may not penalize any employee for choosing to be represented by a union. It also prohibits the school from making statements opposing unionization. CPAC recognizes that this measure helps unions embed their feelers into charter schools, believes that the government should not work on behalf of teachers’ unions, and opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on May 10, 2023 by a vote of 36-19 and the bill later became law.
