This amendment removes a section from HB 3770 that would make Massachusetts‘ tax code dramatically worse. Prior to 2024, the state could only collect a certain amount of revenue from its population. It then had to return any excess funds back to the taxpayers in the form of a tax credit proportional to their income tax liability. The targeted section attempted to change the law such that all would receive the same tax credit without regard to proportionality. CPAC opposes Communist changes to the tax system and supported this amendment. The House defeated this amendment on April 13, 2023 by a vote of 26-128.
