2023 - Maine Senate

Vote Description
This bill doubles the cap on the amount of money that may be awarded for nonpecuniary damages (i.e. “mental anguish,” “emotional pain,” etc.) that occur as a result of violations of Maine’s Human Rights Law. CPAC opposes this measure, the likes of which enriches greedy plaintiff lawyers and fuels the fires of frivolous litigation against businesses and conservatives, and opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on June 7, 2023 by a vote of 20-13 and the bill later became law.
