This bill deletes a provision from public law that prohibits schools from advancing children from 3rd to 4th grade if they fail to demonstrate a certain level of proficiency in reading. CPAC believes that schools should avoid implementing “social promotion” schemes like those which arise in the absence of provisions like these and opposed this bill. The House passed this bill on March 7, 2023 by a vote of 57-51 and the bill later became law.
