This bill repeals North Carolina’s pistol purchase permit law, a relic of Jim Crow-era legislation designed to prevent Black people from owning handguns. The bill also makes it easier for people to carry handguns in places of worship. CPAC supports the founders’ belief in the Second Amendment and supported this bill. The House overrode Governor Cooper’s veto of this bill on March 29, 2023 by a vote of 71-46 and the bill later became law.
