This bill prohibits state agencies from awarding public contracts or making hiring decisions in order to further ESG objectives. The bill also prohibits fiduciaries of the state from investing certain funds based on ESG factors. CPAC opposes the usage of ESG in government decision-making processes and supported this bill. The Senate overrode Governor Cooper’s veto of this bill on June 27, 2023 by a vote of 29-16 and the bill later became law.
