SB 442
Funneling More Money into the Pockets of Elected Officials.
2023 - New Mexico Senate
Vote Description

This bill increases the Governor’s salary by almost $60,000 from $110,000 to just under $170,000. It also gives similar increases to the secretary of state, the attorney general, and other top state officials. CPAC notes that the average salary in New Mexico is far lower than this number, does not believe that there exists a shortage of candidates willing to become Governor large enough to warrant a pay increase, and opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on March 11, 2023 by a vote of 32-9 and the bill later became law.
