A 4956
Forcing Taxpayers to Pay Other People’s Utility Bills.
2023 - New York Senate

Vote Description
This bill establishes an emergency heating energy assistance program to provide funds to people who are at risk of having their electricity shut off because they did not pay their utility bills. CPAC believes that this will incentivize the nonpayment of utility bills, believes that taxpayers should not be forced to pay other people’s utility bills, and opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on June 8, 2023 by a vote of 57-5 but the bill never became law.
