Vote Description

This bill sponsored by Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, known as the “Secure the Border Act,” expands provisions barring certain people from applying for asylum, requires the DHS to resume certain planned constructions of the border wall, and requires employers to use an electronic system to verify the employment eligibility of new employees. CPAC supports efforts to enforce and strengthen federal immigration laws and supported this bill. The House passed this bill on May 11, 2023 by a vote of 219-213 but the bill never became law.
