HB 1719
Weakening Landlords' Ability to Enforce Rental Agreements
2025 - Virginia House of Delegates
Vote Description

This bill lengthens from five days to 14 days the mandatory waiting period after a landlord notifies a tenant of nonpayment of rent before the landlord can move to terminate the rental agreement. It tilts the scales further against property owners by delaying remedies, increasing unpaid rent exposure, and undermining basic contract enforcement. CPAC supports strong property rights for landlords and opposed this bill. The House passed this bill on 2025-02-03 by a vote of 50-48. The Governor vetoed this bill.
