HB 1678
School Districts Pressuring Parents on Firearms in the Home
2025 - Virginia Senate
Vote Description

This bill forces every local school board to send annual notices to parents lecturing them on their legal responsibility to safely store any firearm in the home and mandates multilingual online postings of this messaging. It uses the school system as a vehicle to stigmatize lawful gun ownership and subtly expand government pressure on how citizens store their lawfully owned firearms. CPAC supports the Second Amendment and rejects school-based stigma campaigns against lawful gun owners and opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on 2025-02-10 by a vote of 21-18. The Governor vetoed this bill.
