HB 172
Ending Gun-Free Zones and Restoring Firearm Preemption
2025 - Wyoming Senate
Vote Description

This bill repeals many gun-free zones, allows broader carrying of concealed weapons, criminalizes barring lawful carriers from entry in some contexts, and clarifies that only the legislature may regulate firearms, weapons, and ammunition, with limited exceptions. It strengthens statewide preemption and expands self-defense rights for law-abiding citizens. CPAC supports robust Second Amendment protections and state preemption of local gun control and supported this bill. The Wyoming Senate passed HB 172 on February 21, 2025 in a 25-6 vote, and the measure became law without the Governor’s signature.
