CPAC proudly announces its strong support for the Ohio Legislature's introduction of the App Store Accountability Act (House Bill 226 / Senate Bill 167). Through our Center for Combating Human Trafficking, we unite with conservative leaders to protect survivors and eradicate modern-day slavery. This critical legislation empowers parents by requiring app store providers to obtain verifiable parental consent before minors can download or contract for applications, closing a dangerous loophole exploited by predators and traffickers.
The App Store Accountability Act addresses the urgent need to protect children in an increasingly perilous digital landscape. Unregulated app stores have enabled predators to target minors for grooming, extortion, and trafficking, exploiting the absence of robust parental consent and age-verification measures. By prioritizing parental authority and establishing safeguards akin to those for alcohol, tobacco, and contracts, this bill ensures a safer online environment without compromising free speech or privacy. CPAC commends the bill’s sponsors for recognizing that protecting children is a moral imperative, not a partisan issue, and urges swift passage to save lives and reinforce parental rights in an era when both face unprecedented threats.
