Ben Shapiro, host of The Ben Shapiro Show, discussed recent layoffs at the Department of State as part of cost-cutting measures. He noted that many of the affected employees have been protesting their terminations over the past week, claiming to be victims of what Shapiro sarcastically called an "evil Trump purge."
President Donald Trump, who campaigned on reducing government waste, secured a mandate for these reforms through his historic reelection.
Critics on the left have condemned the layoffs and reductions in government agency funding and foreign aid as harsh. Shapiro, however, emphasized that the cuts are minimal, affecting only about 1,300 employees, less than 4% of the State Department’s workforce, which previously exceeded 80,000. He argued that these measures are needed, as they reduce spending and trim nonessential parts of an overly bloated government agency, stating, “Cutting these gigantic government agencies is a good thing.”
