On the 15th day of the government shutdown, the ninth vote to reopen the government failed, with Democrats once again putting ideology over working for the American people. Democrats claim they want to end the shutdown but, according to Republicans, they are refusing to negotiate a reasonable resolution, based on ideological divisions. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), a member of the Senate Finance, Budget, and Homeland Security Committees, discussed the ongoing crisis on Newsline with Bianca de la Garza, criticizing Democrats' refusal to resume work for the American people due to petty ideological qualms, resulting in thousands of federal workers and service members without pay.
Senator Johnson argued that the spending levels in question are no different from those under President Biden, but Democrats are now demanding an additional $1.5 trillion, which he described as retribution for the spending cutbacks in the One Big Beautiful Bill. De la Garza suggested that the continued Democratic resistance to meeting with Republicans for a resolution is merely theatrics timed to coincide with the "No Kings" protests this weekend. Senator Johnson stated the government could reopen immediately if Democrats would drop unreasonable, far-left amendments and choose to prioritize the American people over radical ideologies.
