Mercedes Schlapp, CPAC Senior Fellow, reported on The Right Squad how the left is intensifying its efforts to obstruct President Trump’s agenda, describing their rhetoric as “turning up the crazy”. Following President Trump’s historic 2024 election victory, alongside conservative gains nationwide, many Democrats are reevaluating their voter engagement strategies. Some in the Democratic base argue that the party’s approach isn’t “good enough,” resorting to violent rhetoric to oppose Trump’s policies.
An Axios article, titled "Democrats told to 'get shot' for the anti-Trump Resistance", reports that some Democratic voters are pressing congressional leaders to escalate anti-Trump resistance. Some far-left voters are urging their representatives to intensify opposition, even expressing there being a need for a readiness to “get shot” while protesting at ICE facilities or federal agencies.
“Democratic members of Congress are facing a growing thrum of demands to break the rules, fight dirty, and not be afraid to get hurt,” Axios notes. Many voters are pushing House Democrats to adopt unconventional and rule-breaking tactics to counter Trump’s agenda, with some employing violent rhetoric.
The article further states that voters “want more,” with certain voters suggesting that resistance requires being “willing to get shot.” This reckless and alarming rhetoric from parts of the Democratic base raises concerns, as feelings of misrepresentation by party leadership may embolden some on the far left to justify violence against President Trump or government officials.
