Violent anti-ICE riots led by far-left activists have intensified in Los Angeles, with rioters attacking police and military personnel, prompting a federal response to quell the chaos. The escalating unrest has ignited a clash between California Governor Gavin Newsom and President Donald Trump.
Ben Shapiro, on The Ben Shapiro Show, lambasted Newsom’s leadership, accusing him of allowing LA and the state to spiral into disorder. “Have you no decency, governor? You presided over the burning of half your state, the uptick in criminality, the lower economic growth with higher taxes, and now illegal immigration riots in LA, and you're questioning the presidency?” Shapiro said. Shapiro further criticized Newsom for rejecting Trump’s offer to deploy reinforcements as a political stunt, suggesting the governor’s ambitions are set on the White House. “That is a dude who desperately wants to become President of the United States,” Shapiro said.
Newsom and Democratic leaders have decried Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and U.S. Marines as unconstitutional and an abuse of power. In a recent MSNBC interview, Newsom accused the President of exacerbating the crisis. “Where's your decency, Mr. President? It's immoral, you're creating the conditions that you claim you're solving, and you're putting real people's lives at risk. This is a serious moment, and it requires serious leadership,” Newsom said.
The federal law enforcement intervention aims to restore order in a city grappling with escalating violence. Newsom’s defenders argue that Trump’s actions risk further inflaming tensions, while critics, including Shapiro, contend that California’s leadership has failed to address the root causes of the unrest.
As Los Angeles remains on edge, the confrontation between state and federal authorities underscores a broader national debate over immigration enforcement, public safety, and executive authority.
