House Oversight Committee to Subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell Coinciding with CPAC's Center for Combating Human Trafficking Summit

The House Oversight Committee, led by Rep. Tim Burchett, has approved a subpoena for Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted associate of Jeffrey Epstein, as part of a renewed investigation into Epstein’s criminal network. This marks a rare congressional action targeting an individual currently in federal prison, signaling a determined effort to uncover new details about Epstein’s operations, which allegedly affected approximately 3,000 minors.

The decision comes amid a viral resurgence of public and legislative interest in the Epstein case, with lawmakers calling for justice for victims. The Committee is coordinating with the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Prisons to arrange a date to depose Maxwell, who is serving her sentence in federal prison. The subpoena aims to compel Maxwell to testify about her role and knowledge of Epstein’s activities, potentially shedding light on previously undisclosed aspects of the case.

Concurrently, the Department of Justice, under Attorney General Pam Bondi, has initiated contact with Maxwell’s legal team to explore her willingness to cooperate with federal prosecutors. Todd Blanche, a lawyer acting on Bondi’s direction, stated, “Justice demands courage. For the first time, the Department of Justice is reaching out to Ghislaine Maxwell to ask: What do you know? At Attorney General Bondi’s direction, I’ve contacted her counsel. I intend to meet with her soon. No one is above the law—and no lead is off-limits.” Blanche noted that no prior administration had sought Maxwell’s cooperation on behalf of the Department, adding, “That changes now.”

Maxwell’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, confirmed to CNN, “I can confirm that we are in discussions with the government and that Ghislaine will always testify truthfully. We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case.” Markus indicated that Maxwell is open to engaging with prosecutors, with a meeting anticipated in the coming days.

The renewed focus on the Epstein case coincides with the third annual International Summit Against Human Trafficking, hosted by CPAC’s Center for Combating Human Trafficking at the U.S. Capitol today. The summit is pressing lawmakers to hold traffickers accountable and prioritize victim protection, amplifying calls for justice in high-profile cases like Epstein’s. As the House Oversight Committee and the Department of Justice pursue Maxwell’s testimony, the public and victims alike await potential revelations about Epstein’s network and the accountability of those involved.
