In a discussion on The Right View with host Lara Trump, Libby Emmons, a writer for the New York Post, and Amber Duke, Washington Editor for The Spectator, dissected the recent Democratic primary victory of self-described socialist Zohran Mamdani. Branding his policies as catastrophic for New York City, Emmons called Mamdani’s vision “absolutely the worst idea for New York in at least 100 years.”
Mamdani’s platform, as outlined by Lara Trump, focuses on increasing government spending for state-run grocery stores, free public transportation, and free childcare, while proposing cuts to the NYPD budget. Trump argued that these initiatives, though appealing to some voters, would bankrupt the city. She framed Mamdani’s win as indicative of a broader shift within the Democratic Party toward far-left socialism, raising concerns about its impact on New York.
Emmons emphasized New York City’s status as a global cultural and financial hub, crediting its past success to conservative leadership. “The city runs well when you have conservative leaders that come in there and 'crack skulls' like Giuliani did,” she said, referencing a time when policies led to safer public spaces. “Suddenly, you could walk through Washington Square [Park] without being offered drugs.” Emmons warned that Mamdani’s leadership could worsen ongoing issues like crime and cleanliness, further eroding the city’s functionality.
