Late-night television was once a place for Americans to come together and unwind with light-hearted entertainment. But in recent years, the industry has shifted dramatically, with shows morphing into platforms for partisan rants that alienate audiences and drive ratings to historic lows. According to CPAC Senior Fellow Mercedes Schlapp, this downward spiral can be largely attributed to hosts like Jimmy Kimmel, who prioritize bashing President Donald Trump and stoking national divisions over delivering genuine entertainment.
Kimmel's show, in particular, has been fighting an uphill battle to remain on air amid these plummeting viewership numbers. Yet, despite these challenges, he has consistently voiced support for anti-Israel rhetoric and aligned himself with pro-Hamas sentiments. Schlapp didn't mince words on this, humorously suggesting that Kimmel's program should be rebranded as "Hamas for Kimmel" in light of his apparent backing for pro-Hamas protesters. This isn't just isolated commentary; Schlapp argues that such inflammatory political takes from Kimmel and his fellow late-night hosts are the root cause of their eroding credibility.
