Ohio Representative Jim Jordan, a member of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, joins Bianca de la Garza on Newsline to discuss the possibility of Lara Trump running for the US Senate in North Carolina.
The historic One Big Beautiful Bill was passed and signed into law this past week by President Trump on Independence Day. Many within the Republican party are celebrating, but the few holdouts within the party are becoming ostracized. US Senator Thom Tillis is one of them, being one of three US Senators to vote against the Bill. Facing backlash and threats of being primaried, Sen Tillis decided not to seek reelection, leaving the Senate seat for North Carolina a new battleground.
President Trump has demonstrated his support for his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to run for the seat in North Carolina. The President said aboard Air Force One to reporters, “Somebody that would really be great is Lara, she grew up there.” The President said she did a tremendous job with the Republican National Convention, and she would be familiar with NC and the problems that matter to the state.
De la Garza asked Jordan if he would join President Trump in supporting Lara Trump running for the Senate seat. Jordan said that there are many great candidates who could potentially run for the seat who are strong conservatives, but that, given the popularity of Lara Trump, she would be a great pick. “I think Lara Trump is probably the favorite, and we’ll see if she wants to do it, she’d be great.”, said Jordan.
