On September 3, 2025, Beijing's Tiananmen Square hosted China's largest-ever military parade, commemorating 80 years since the end of World War II. Chinese President Xi Jinping, flanked by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, among other prominent leaders, showcased China's military might, including its nuclear triad—land, sea, and air-based weapons—with an upgraded intercontinental ballistic missile boasting a 12,400-mile range. Advanced technologies like weaponized "robot wolves" and underwater drones dazzled over 50,000 spectators, while 10,000 soldiers marched in perfect unison. Xi's bold declaration, “The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable,” underscored his ambition for a "world-class" military, signaling a challenge to Western dominance.
Trump took to Truth Social to express his concerns, accusing the leaders of conspiring against the U.S. He wrote, “May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration. Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against the United States of America.” He further questioned whether Xi would acknowledge America's WWII contributions, stating, “The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and ‘blood’ that the United States of America gave to China to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader. Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice!” These remarks reflect ongoing U.S.-China tensions, particularly as the Trump Administration navigates a delicate trade landscape, having recently extended a tariff truce to maintain duties at 30% on Chinese imports and 10% on U.S. goods for another 90 days.
A peculiar hot mic moment added intrigue, capturing Putin and Xi discussing biotechnology and longevity. Xi remarked, “These days, 70 years old you’re still a child,” while Putin mused, “Biotechnology is continuously developing … human organs can be continuously transplanted. The longer you live, the younger you become, and you can even achieve immortality.” Xi added, “Some predict that in this century humans may live to 150 years old.” This rhetoric contrasts with Trump’s stance, as he emphasized honoring fallen soldiers and aspiring to spiritual development. The conversation raises ethical concerns about organ sourcing, potentially from exploitative means, casting a shadow over the parade’s display of power. Trump’s pointed critique, especially his charge that Xi, Putin, and Kim “conspire against the United States of America,” underscores the parade’s role as both a military spectacle and a geopolitical flashpoint.
China's military parade, in Tiananmen Square, not only celebrated 80 years since the end of World War II but also served as a bold statement of its global ambitions, showcasing advanced weaponry and military prowess under President Xi Jinping’s vision of national rejuvenation. The presence of leaders like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, coupled with their hot mic exchange on biotechnology and longevity, highlighted the geopolitical tensions underlying the event. Former President Trump’s response, accusing the leaders of conspiring against the U.S. and questioning China’s acknowledgment of American WWII sacrifices, further underscored the strained U.S.-China relations.
