Liberals' outrage over President Trump's White House renovations reached new heights today, with many calling it an "attack on history." "To take literally a wrecking ball to the White House is grotesque...this is history being torn to shreds," said Joe Scarborough, host of Morning Joe on MSNBC. This outrage demonstrates that liberals will oppose any project with Trump's name attached, revealing their shared psychosis over the President. Ben Shapiro pushes back, pointing out that the White House has been renovated many times and even burned down once since its original construction, and that calling this renovation an "attack on history" is absurd.
Shapiro argues that the East Wing of the White House is not the historical artifact that liberal commentators claim it to be. In fact, the upper levels were last renovated in 1942; some other renovations include a swimming pool under President Roosevelt in 1933, and President Nixon famously added a bowling alley to the basement in 1973. Shapiro contends that claiming President Trump is destroying history is ridiculous, there has long been a need for a ballroom structure in the White House to accommodate larger events—surely that should not be as controversial as adding a pool or bowling alley. "This doesn't go back to the Lincoln era, guys, we're not talking about gutting the West Wing," Shapiro added.
