At CPAC Hungary 2025, CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp delivered an opening address, declaring that "America is back and stronger than ever" and ready to bolster its alliance with Hungary. Schlapp urged Hungary to safeguard its borders and cultural identity against globalist forces that aim to undermine its sovereignty. "Globalists want to get between you and your government," he warned, emphasizing the need for Hungary to prioritize freedom and family values in its upcoming 2026 election to foster a safer world and a stronger US-Hungary alliance.

Reflecting on America’s recent political history, Schlapp criticized former President Barack Obama, arguing that his administration fostered a sense of division among Americans through identity politics. “We’ve never had a communist dictatorship in America. Still, it felt like it starting with Obama, who shamed America and Americans as being racist if they didn’t agree with him or his agenda. We didn’t know anymore who we were,” Schlapp said.

Americans didn’t know who they were anymore, besides being angry with their neighbors. America had no direction until Donald Trump famously came down the escalator in Trump Tower to announce his bid for the Presidency. Schlapp highlighted CPAC’s early support for President Donald Trump, noting, “Sadly, one of the reasons we picked an outsider is because we [Americans] were so broken. We were so broken that we didn’t want to turn to politicians for answers.”

Schlapp praised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for inspiring a global shift in immigration policy. “We normalized this idea started by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, that a country should control its immigration,” he said, adding that Trump embraced this principle with his “America First” stance. Schlapp argued that those who spoke out against the mass immigration agenda or believed in American exceptionalism were unfairly labeled as bigots, particularly under the Obama and Biden Administrations.

Recalling a conversation with Trump during Biden’s presidency, Schlapp shared Trump’s motivation for running again: “I don’t think America could survive.” Schlapp emphasized that Trump’s mission to “Make America Great Again” offers hope globally, resonating with CPAC’s admiration for his ability to counter globalist establishment figures. “He makes all the right people sweat,” Schlapp said.

Addressing the Hungarian audience and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Schlapp delivered a message of optimism: “There is a new breeze blowing, and that wind is at our backs. And we are going forward.” He lauded Orbán’s diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and his rejection of “woke ideology,” including gender transitions for children and the devaluation of family structures. “You have a Prime Minister in Viktor Orbán who said no. No to the insanity of the woke ideology… or this idea that Hungarians shouldn’t be able to choose their own course, their own constitution, and have their own ideas of what it means to make a strong Hungary,” Schlapp said.

Schlapp warned of the challenges facing conservatives, noting that those who share CPAC’s views often face censorship, legal attacks, and being labeled a bigot. “Will we embrace freedom or will we fall into the tyranny that comes from the globalists?” he asked. CPAC, he pledged, remains committed to supporting strong leaders like Trump and Orbán who prioritize their nations’ interests, promoting a more prosperous and secure world.
