In a recent appearance on NewsMax’s Right Squad, Mercedes Schlapp condemned the escalating wave of political violence worldwide. Her remarks come in the wake of a shocking assassination attempt on a Colombian presidential candidate, who was shot six times, and the tragic killing of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman.
“Regardless of political party, we all have a responsibility to come together and condemn political violence,” Schlapp stated, urging unity in the face of such acts. She emphasized that while ideological differences may fuel political divisions, resorting to violence is unacceptable and poses a grave threat to democratic principles.
Schlapp expressed alarm at the growing dangers faced by political leaders, warning that this violence undermines democracy itself. “We can disagree on policy, but you can’t go around and kill politicians,” she said. “We can’t allow politics to become as dangerous as it is in some of these Latin American countries.”
