At CPAC Paraguay this past week, Argentine President Javier Milei delivered a forceful defense of free-market reforms, asserting that “good and truth will prevail” when nations embrace liberty. He praised Paraguay as “an example of what needs to be done in economic matters,” referencing continuous decades of stability, growth, and Western values, contrasting it with Argentina’s past “elephantine state” and crushing inflation. Pointing to his administration’s reforms, Milei discussed balancing the budget, putting a pause on printing money, and cutting poverty by nearly 50% as proof that freedom works. “There are no third ways,” he warned, emphasizing that only deep, moral reforms rooted in life, liberty, and property can secure not only personal and nationwide, but worldwide prosperity.
Paraguayan President Santiago Peña closed the event with a deeply personal and spiritual address. Mourning the loss of Charlie Kirk, he denounced political violence in all forms, condemning the perpetrators and their supporters as “Cowards” who “will not have the final word.” He reminded the audience that “the line that separates good from evil runs through the hearts of all human beings,” urging conservatives to fight with conviction for Western values and the nuclear family. He echoed President Milei’s devotion to and valuing of “solidarity, caring for your neighbor, the respect of private property, and a free market in a state.” Calling Paraguay “a natural home for CPAC,” Peña praised his nation’s tradition of faith, family, and resilience, noting that “common sense is no longer common” but Paraguay will stand firm for life, democracy, and freedom by “guiding ourselves, each step, with[in] the presence of God Almighty.”
Together, Milei and Peña set a bold tone for conservatism in South America. Milei’s data-driven proof that liberty restores nations, coupled with Peña’s moral call to action against cultural decay, framed CPAC as more than a conference. In Milei’s words, the world is amidst “a cultural battle between good and evil,” demanding courage, clarity, and an unwavering belief in freedom and God.
