One Year After Trump’s Executive Order, Universities Face Title IX Accountability

On January 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed a sweeping executive order titled “Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.” The order reaffirmed that the United States recognizes two sexes, male and female, grounded in biological reality, and directed all federal agencies to enforce sex-based protections accordingly. This action marked a decisive shift in federal education and civil rights policy, restoring the original intent of laws like Title IX and rejecting the redefinition of sex to include subjective gender identity.
One year later, the consequences of institutions ignoring that guidance are becoming increasingly apparent. On January 22, 2026, Defending Education filed a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights alleging that Yale University is violating Title IX. The complaint argues that Yale’s residential bathroom policies prioritize gender identity over biological sex, leaving women without guaranteed access to female-only restrooms on certain dormitory floors. Because Yale receives substantial federal funding, the complaint asserts that these policies place the university in direct conflict with both Title IX and current federal enforcement standards.
The CPAC Education Coalition was formed to confront exactly these kinds of violations and to ensure that sex-based protections in education are enforced as written under the law. Title IX was designed to safeguard women’s dignity, privacy, and equal opportunity, not to eliminate sex-separated spaces or redefine biological terms. The January 2025 executive order made clear that replacing sex with gender ideology undermines legal protections and public trust, particularly in federally funded institutions entrusted with student welfare.
The Yale case represents a critical test of whether federal law will be enforced as written in 2026. The CPAC Education Coalition remains committed to restoring excellence, accountability, and freedom in America’s schools by rejecting radical gender ideology and insisting that education policy be grounded in truth and transparency. As the Department of Education reviews this complaint, we will continue to advocate for parents, students, and individuals whose rights depend on the faithful enforcement of Title IX and the preservation of biological reality in law and policy.
