Portland Under Siege: The Real Cost of Antifa Anarchy

In the heart of Portland, what began as protests against federal immigration policies has spiraled into a nightmare of chaos and fear, courtesy of Antifa’s unchecked aggression.
Residents, even those who oppose President Trump’s policies, are now pleading for federal intervention to restore order in a city they describe as a “war zone.” Trump’s stark warning that “Portland is burning to the ground” and is plagued by “insurrectionists all over the place” rings true as ordinary Portlanders recount harrowing experiences of violence and intimidation.
Brennah Hammar, a 57-year-old Portland native who disagrees with “every single one of President Donald Trump’s policies, including his approach to immigration enforcement,” embodies the desperation felt by many. Yet, she staunchly supports Trump’s plan to deploy the National Guard, stating, “That is one thing I support, as far as Trump is concerned…Because the city is failing us, and I don’t want to feel like I’m collateral damage. And my rights matter, too.” Hammar’s home has become a fortress against the mayhem; she’s had to don a gas mask inside her own apartment due to tear gas leaking in from nightly clashes. Footage she shared with BBC News captures gunshots and protesters attacking residents, proving that Antifa’s decentralized, leftist movement—designated a domestic terrorist group by Trump—is terrorizing innocents far beyond any legitimate protest.
Similarly, 63-year-old Cindy Colgrove reveals the daily terror imposed by Antifa, admitting she “only come[s] out during the day” to avoid the black-clad militants who “come with the night.” She describes the ordeal as “115 days of hell” since protests intensified outside the ICE facility, contrasting the daytime presence of “little old senior people that think they’re changing the world” with the nocturnal reign of fear. This resident’s account validates conservative warnings: Antifa isn’t about freedom of speech but about instilling intimidation, silencing dissent, and turning Portlanders into “prisoners of far-left tolerance.” What started as demonstrations has devolved into mob rule, where ordinary folks fear stepping outside after dark.
Democratic officials, like Portland Mayor Keith Wilson, exacerbate the crisis by blaming federal agents for the violence, calling their actions an “aggressive approach trying to inflame the situation that has otherwise been peaceful.” This denial is laughable—peaceful? Antifa, far from a “humble convent,” thrives on chaos to control scared citizens. Democrats once dismissed Antifa as “just an idea,” but tell that to the mother clutching a gas mask next to her Bible amid tear-gas invasions. The area’s nightly battles between agents and black-dressed protesters opposing immigration arrests highlight how leftist tolerance enables anarchy, leaving residents as collateral in a political game.
This past week, President Trump hosted a White House roundtable on Antifa, signaling an end to letting leftist militants terrorize cities, it’s clear the era of appeasement must conclude. Despite a federal judge temporarily halting his plan for allegedly exceeding constitutional authority, the voices of Portland’s beleaguered residents demand action. From gas masks in homes to daylight-only outings, the human toll of this insurrection exposes the hypocrisy of far-left politicians. Conservatives have long argued for law and order; now, even liberal Portlanders agree—it’s time to reclaim our cities from the grip of domestic terror and restore peace for all Americans.
