Santiago Abascal, Member of the Congress of Deputies for Madrid and President of Spain’s Patriots’ Party, delivered a powerful address at CPAC in DC 2025, denouncing the authoritarian rule of unelected European “oligarchs” in Brussels. Abascal accused these unelected bureaucrats of allowing mass migration to undermine Western civilization, democracy, and national sovereignty.
Abascal opened his speech by highlighting a severe democratic crisis in Europe, driven by unelected officials who he claims are determined to dissolve Western culture, identity, and religious Christian expression. “It is true that we are facing a serious democratic crisis. It is true that the oligarchies that no one in Europe has voted for are dedicated to making decisions,” Abascal stated. He argued that these unelected elites have repeatedly demonstrated their contempt for Western civilization, its history, and its values.
He criticized the narrative that mass immigration represents diversity and cultural enrichment/integration, calling it an attack on Western cohesion and identity. “It is true that the massive immigration promoted by these same oligarchs is destroying our coexistence, public services, and the very identity of our people. It is also true that hand in hand with this immigration comes Islamist terrorism,” Abascal declared. He accused these “oligarchs” of seeking to “liquidate our freedom” by importing violent Islamic extremists, drugs, crime, and individuals who support an authoritarian leftist state usually like the one they are leaving, eroding fundamental freedoms.
Abascal reiterated his concerns about the intentions of European elites, stating, “The European oligarchs are destroying everything that once made Europe great…they intend to liquidate our freedom.” He pointed to rising crime rates, including murder, rape, and theft, which he attributed to jihadist extremists who he claims subvert Islamic principles to impose a violent, autocratic ideology. “Europe is not Islamist submission, nor woke ideology, nor cancel culture…our civilization is that of freedom of expression, freedom of creation, economic freedom, and that of Christian roots,” Abascal emphasized.
Celebrating the reelection of President Donald Trump, Abascal described it as a significant victory for both America and Europe, expressing hope for a strengthened alliance between the United States and Spain. He criticized Brussels for opposing leaders like President Trump and Britain’s Nigel Farage, who prioritize national sovereignty and border security. “President Trump is an enemy of Europe because he puts the interests of Americans first. That accusation is something that can only occur to those who have put the interests of their citizens last,” Abascal said, defending leaders who advocate for their nations’ autonomy.
Abascal stressed that the fight for conservative values is far from over, urging global conservatives to support candidates and legislation that restore power to the people rather than unelected elites in Brussels or Washington. He framed the issue as a matter of national sovereignty, questioning whether the authority to enforce borders should lie with globalist institutions or democratically elected officials. “The American taxpayers and the European taxpayers, I think it is a unique case in history in which the people are forced to pay out of their own pockets for the invasion that the people themselves suffer,” Abascal remarked.
In closing, Abascal called for a renewed effort to reclaim national identity and security. “We must also reconquer our borders, our identity, and the security lost in our streets. We must reconquer democracy for all citizens, and we must reconquer the sovereignty of the Nations,” he concluded, rallying conservatives to defend their nations against globalist overreach.
