U.S Economy Adds 147,000 Jobs, Much Higher Than Expected, Unemployment Rate Unexpectedly Falls

Employers in the United States added 147,000 workers to their payrolls in June, the Department of Labor said Thursday, and the unemployment rate declined to 4.1 percent, defying predictions of labor market sluggishness following the implementation of President Trump’s tariffs.

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner is a confirmed speaker for CPAC in DC 2025.  


Turner is a retired NFL cornerback and former Texas state representative. He has been active in politics since 2003 when he interned in Congressman Duncan Hunter’s office. Since then, he has served two terms in the Texas state House of Representatives and as director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council in President Trump’s first term in office. His Community Engagement and Opportunity Council supports children living in poverty through reading programs, sports mentorship programs, and more.
