America is still in shock and mourning in the wake of the tragic assassination of beloved conservative influencer, TPUSA Founder and Executive Director Charlie Kirk. Skyler Baird, an eyewitness to the shooting, recounts his perspective during the event and what Kirk meant to him and for America, on Newsline with Biance de la Garza.
Baird recounted his experience of arriving at the event and how welcoming Kirk was to his supporters and leftist protesters alike. Kirk was inclusive towards differing viewpoints and religions, offering thoughtful discourse and authentic conversation.
"It's sad when a nobody, a loser, can take such an act of such an important person, someone that has so much love, someone that has so much integrity, in this case, literally put his life on the line in order to change hearts and minds, to bring people together.", said Baird.
"The shooter is someone who valued their identity over another", said Baird, who was intent on putting a label on themselves and imposing it on others. Baird said that this thinking leads to such violent acts because it inspires an "us vs. them" mentality and leaves no room for differing opinions and basic humanity, and a love that rises above labels. Baird said that the solution is to recognize that you are love and that you are loved by God and are not defined by your self-imposed labels that cause division.
"The solution to all of this is recognizing that we are Love and that we are loved by God, that we are children of God. If you put your identity above that, you are making yourself your own god, and that's what causes the hate and the division.", concluded Baird.
