The Mauritius government is demanding that the UK government sign a treaty to give Mauritius land. The Leftist UK government is poised to accept this absurd treaty. They’re even paying Mauritius 18 billion British Pounds to take the land.
This treaty is based entirely on White Guilt. Mauritius has no legitimate claim to the Chagos Islands. 99% of the Mauritian population has no cultural, ancestral, geographic, or historical connection to the Chagos Islands. The vast majority of the Mauritian people are descended from Indian workers who came to Mauritius in the last 300 years. They were never connected to the Chagos Islands, or any nearby Island/people for that matter.
The claim made by the Mauritian government is based on an obscure legal technicality on a treaty from 1814, not the fact that a small number of Chagossians settled in Mauritius and comprise a poor underclass there. Many Chagossians in Mauritius, the Seychelles, and the U.K. would like to return to their home islands and have their independence, but they were never consulted about this treaty. CPAC strongly supports the right to self determination for the Chagossians.
This treaty would be laughed out of court in any serious judicial system, but Radical Leftist Keir Starmer is trying to betray UK citizens by giving away land and tax dollars for no reason.
Why does this matter to the United States? The Chagos Islands contain the American Diego Garcia military base, and Mauritius is a puppet state of the CCP.
Handing over the Chagos Islands would give China concerning proximity to a U.S. military base that is of utmost importance in protecting U.S. trade and industry in the Indian Ocean. The agreement would also give China a major payday in the amount of 18 billion pounds paid to the Mauritians.
The cards are in President Trump's hands, however. President Trump has a de jure veto power that can stop the White Guilt Treaty from being implemented. As a part of the agreement of the Diego Garcia Base, America gets a say over whatever happens to the Islands.
Instead of giving the islands away to Mauritius and the CCP, President Trump should endorse an independent Chagos Islands State under US protection. The Chagos Islands People themselves were never consulted about this White Guilt Treaty to give their home islands to Mauritius. The people who have the most legitimate claim to the Chagos Islands are the Chagos Islands people themselves. President Trump should allow the Chagos Islands people to create their own independent state which will guarantee that Chinese influence is not present.
CPAC believes in the free exercise of the inherent rights of the individual, something that communist China seeks to eradicate. It would be in the spirit of liberty and self-determination - and also in America’s national interest - for President Trump to reject Starmer’s White Guilt Treaty and support a free independent Chagos state which could coexist with and be protected by the Diego Garcia Air Base.
CPAC will always be a proponent of standing up to the CCP and strongly supports the independence of the Chagossians from the Chinese controlled Mauritians.
As such, CPAC urges President Trump to say 'No' to the White Guilt Treaty, “No” to radical Leftist race guilt, and “'No” to Chinese economic and military expansion.
