CPAC Releases Maryland Legislative Scorecard, Exposing a Veritable ‘California of the East.’
ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 22, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s analysis reveals Maryland to be a leading innovator in Leftist policy on the East Coast. This past session, Maryland’s policymakers created new ways to wage lawfare against conservatives, more crackdowns on Second Amendment freedoms, stronger avenues for vote fraud, and much more. Maryland Democrats deservedly received an average score of less than 1% across both chambers.
“Maryland Democrats have utilized their complete control of the legislature and Governor’s office to do all in their power to create a big, oppressive state government,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “Those concerned for the future of our country need to monitor this ‘California of the East’ and publicize its obscene legislation.”
CPAC recognizes the following members of the Maryland State Legislature for earning CPAC’s Award for Conservative Excellence for voting with the conservative position at least 90% of the time during the 2023 session.

The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Maryland address Second Amendment rights, government regulations, and various DEI initiatives. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and upholding the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Maryland legislature.
The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area.
